Training and Local Employment
Core to the very values and ideals of Burrows are our commitment to investing in the future of our workforce, and supporting the local economies in the places where we work.
That means effective and accredited training is at the heart of what we do, and that we always train and employ local people.
We know that locally paid wages stay circulating in the community. That locally trained people stay living in their communities. And that means our employees continue to pay local council rates, rent or buy local properties, shop locally and help to improve their community economy.
"The Workmanship from Burrows is brilliant, the level of resource and attention to detail is also brilliant."
Luke White – Senior QS for United Living
The Burrows Training Plan (BUILT)
The ethos behind the training strategy we are developing centres on helping local people out of unemployment and dependence on benefits.
Through our training programme we quickly train up unskilled apprentices in basic industry skills.
Then we also offer them longer-term training and up-skilling opportunities; ones that will make a long lasting difference to their own lives, but also to local communities.
We offer market pay rates for even our most junior trainees, ensuring that work always pays and that it motivates them to continue broadening their skills.
We don’t just offer work to already experienced and qualified people.
Instead, we work with job centres, employment organisations, universities and colleges to offer an intensive training programmes that quickly gets unskilled people trained, learning, inspired and, most importantly, into real and lasting work.
The aim is to leave the legacy of a skilled workforce wherever we work, and to support local economies by keeping the locally earned £1 spent in its own community.
